March is Women’s History Month

2 Mar
  • I am excited for Women’s History Month mostly just because of this deeply fucking cool piece about black women spies in the Civil War by Ms. Magazine. This is a movie, Hollywood.
  • The White House has for the occasion also just released the “first comprehensive federal report on the status of American women in almost 50 years.” There are mixed results, most notably a continued sizable pay disparity, but on the other hand now you have a scary huge federal report you can cite when people go, “god, seriously, are you still on about that whole men and women’s equality thing? That’s not a big deal anymore.” Huzzah!
  • Speaking of pay discrimination, the National Women’s Law Center is advancing a lawsuit representing over a million current and former female Wal-Mart employees alleging that across the company, women are paid on average 15 percent less than men for the same work. Go fuck ’em, ladies!
  • Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid said in his statement on Women’s History Month that Congress will work to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, which should produce some comically angry spewage from Phyllis Schlafly soon.
